The Projects Directorate at the EIB
PJ works together in cross Directorate teams, namely with the EIB’s Lending Directorate, to appraise and monitor projects, assessing their economic, financial and technical sustainability, and provides advice and independent opinions to the Bank’s decision makers on the quality and risks of projects and on sector policy to be followed. PJ is also involved in policy formulation for the Bank to respond to EU policies and sectoral studies to help in identifying potential projects and plays an important role in advising promoters on the development and implementation of projects, either directly or through external consultants.
About the ENERGY sector
In 2019, the EU adopted a comprehensive legal framework to deliver ambitious climate and energy targets for 2030, including further reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy efficiency and promoting the use of energy from renewable sources. The Bank’s energy lending policy sets out how the Bank, as a public bank, can help support the EU in meeting this challenge. It represents a significant change in the Bank’s approach to the energy sector and an important input into the Banks overall climate strategy.
